Tsagaan Sar 2026: Mongolia’s Lunar New Year Cultural Tour

Tsagaan Sar, Mongolia’s Lunar New Year Festival, is one of the most important holidays in Mongolian culture. It marks the arrival of spring and a time for renewal, when families come together to honor ancestors, share traditional dishes, and welcome the new year with optimism and respect.

This Tsagaan Sar 2026 tour offers travelers a genuine cultural experience of Mongolia’s winter traditions and the nomadic way of life. The journey begins in Ulaanbaatar, where you’ll explore key cultural and historical landmarks that introduce Mongolia’s heritage and Buddhist influences.

You’ll then travel to the countryside to stay with a host nomadic family, joining them in the preparation and celebration of the Tsagaan Sar festival. Guests can take part in authentic New Year customs—such as exchanging traditional greetings (zolgokh), enjoying homemade dairy products, and tasting festive dishes like buuz (steamed dumplings). It’s a meaningful opportunity to connect with local people and learn about Mongolia’s centuries-old nomadic culture.

After two days of celebrating Tsagaan Sar with your host family, the trip continues through Mongolia’s winter landscapes, visiting Khustai Nuruu National Park to see the reintroduced wild horses (takhi), and Terelj National Park to explore its unique rock formations and the iconic Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex.

This Mongolia winter tour combines cultural immersion, scenic beauty, and local hospitality—offering an authentic way to experience Mongolia’s Lunar New Year and understand the deep traditions that continue to shape nomadic life today.
