Mongolia Visa Information 2026

Updated Entry Requirements for Travelers: updated on January 9th, 2026

If you’re planning to travel to Mongolia in 2026, it’s important to understand the current visa requirements before booking flights or finalizing your trip. Mongolia’s visa policy has changed several times in recent years, especially due to temporary tourism promotion measures, so this guide explains what applies now and what travelers should expect in 2026.

Mongolia is an adventure destination where travelers can experience nomadic culture and vast, untouched landscapes. There may be no greater thrill than having the chance to explore a destination seemingly untouched by tourism.

Important Visa Policy Update for 2026

Between 2022 and 2025, Mongolia introduced a special tourism promotion policy that allowed citizens of many countries to enter visa-free for short stays. This policy was originally temporary and has now been extended until December 31, 2026.

At the same time, Mongolia continues to maintain its regular visa-free agreements with certain countries based on long-standing bilateral arrangements. Travelers should understand which category applies to their passport.

Visa requirements depend on nationality, length of stay, and purpose of travel.

Visa-Free Entry under Temporary Tourism Policy [valid until the end of December 31st, 2026]

Under Mongolia’s tourism promotion policy, citizens of the following countries can enter Mongolia visa-free for tourism purposes for short stays. This is a temporary measure valid until the end of 2026.

This visa-free entry applies only for tourism purposes and is valid until December 31, 2026. Extensions may be possible but are not guaranteed and must be approved by the Immigration Agency of Mongolia.

Visa-Free Entry under Regular [permanent] Agreement

Mongolia also grants visa-free entry to citizens of certain countries under long-standing bilateral or multilateral agreements. These arrangements are not part of the temporary tourism policy and generally remain in effect regardless of tourism campaigns.

Mongolian e-Visa [Online Visa]

If your nationality is not eligible for visa-free entry, you may still be able to apply for an e-visa for Mongolia online.

Mongolia currently allows citizens of 98 countries to apply for an e-visa through its official online system. The e-visa is designed for short stays, mainly for tourism, and allows travelers to complete the application process without visiting a Mongolian embassy.
