Tour Description

Mongolian winter ski trip, you will traverse through the nomadic capital Ulaanbaatar, and its highlights including the Chinggis Khaan Museum, Choijin Lama Temple, Gandan monastery with nomadic cultural performances. Afterwards, we will leave the city and hover into the nomadic wintertime wilderness and a back country ski experience with no ski lift queues.

In course of the journey, we will explore beautiful Terelj National Park, sled on back of Siberian huskies on frozen streams through snow-covered forests, visit a real nomadic herders and enjoy skiing in the world’s first strictly protected forest-covered mountain.

Don’t let the cold stand in your way! Our experienced team would not make you feel cold. We provide our guests with the nomadic traditional coat (a winter ‘deel’ with sheepskin insulate), goatskin blankets for insulating the horse sleighs and felt boots.

Keep in mind that our winter experience is dedicated only for the adventure chasers who are happy to take each day as it comes.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Mongolia.

Upon arrival in Mongolia, our driver will take you from airport and transfer you to a centrally located 4-star hotel in Ulaanbaatar. Then we will start a city tour to explore winter Ulaanbaatar: visit to Sukhbaatar’s square – the central square in Ulaanbaatar, in front of the Mongolian Parliament House. Across from the central square, we will visit Chinngis Khaan Museum – the biggest and new museum with many of exhibitions belong to Mongolian history culture and tradition. Our next stop will be the Gandan Monastery. The monastery is the largest and most significant Buddhist monastery in Ulaanbaatar city with over 200 years old. If time permits, we will visit the Zaisan Hill memorial, the hill provides a panoramic view of Ulaanbaatar. Overnight in a hotel.

• Travel time: From Ulaanbaatar International airport to city centre is about 35km.

Day 2: Dog sledding in Terelj National Park

We will take you from hotel in the morning and head to Terelj National Park. Before we get to Terelj, we will visit Chinggis Khaan statue complex – we will walk up on the stand platform of the statue complex, and visit a small museum on its basement floor. Available to take photos in Mongolian traditional rope – deel and also with a hunter eagle near the statue complex. After that, we will drive to the national park: we will visit Aryapala meditation temple, Melkhii khad (turtle shaped rock). After the temple visit, we will do dog sledding around the park in brief. In the evening, we will get to a traditional ger camp.

• Travel: From Ulaanbaatar to Terelj NP, 100 km on the asphaltic road. Approximately 2 hours of driving.

• Accommodation: Overnight in eco ger camp, accommodation is twin-based

Day 3&4: A day for skiing adventure and visit nomadic family

This morning, we will have breakfast at the ger and drive to our ski resort towards back to Ulaanbaatar city. Once we arrive at the resort, we will settle in our winter camp. After lunch, you have half day for skiing – hit the slopes, take ski lessons, explore the region- what ever you fancy. If available8 we will visit a nomadic family to get acquainted with their daily life. In the evening of day 4, we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar.

• Travel time: Approximately 90 km drive on asphaltic road.
• Meal(s): Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner + drinking water
• Accommodation: You will stay in a winter camp on day 3 and in a centrally located hotel on day 4 in Ulaanbaatar. Accommodation is twin-based.

Day 5: Departure
